Do you really know what happens to the items that you recycle or throw away? If you answered “no” you are not alone! Ramsey/Washington Recycling and Energy (R&E) are hoping to change this and enlisted Metre’s help in creating engaging tours to educate the next generation of recyclers.
Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about their garbage, and when it comes to recycling programs misinformation abounds. R&E has state of the art facilities and a commitment to reducing waste, but until people realize that their actions make a difference they are unlikely to change their behavior.
As R&E’s focus is on investing in our future, educating children about waste management at an early age aligns perfectly with their goals. Showing is more effective than telling, so getting students into the facility for tours was a must, but ensuring a memorable experience with easily digestible information would be just as important.
Metre created engaging animal characters to act as guides for student groups touring the Recycling and Energy Center. Through the addition of wall graphics, flowcharts, and other supplemental materials the center transformed into a space where students can feel connected to the experience and retain the important messages learned.
